Individual Web Design Projects

As a culminating project, you are invited to work on an assignment of your own creation. Choose a topic that will be of use to you beyond the course.

You will need to

Manage the pages with html, css and javascript.
You will probably also use ftp to get your work to the hosting server.

You should add some of these features:

Podcast
rss feed
xml php cgi
javascript
other web programming languages
Linking a flickr account with your site to store photos
Database driven pages
Make your own wiki from scratch
Online store
Register your own domain name
Get a hosting package

Goals and documentation:

You will need to create a set of goals before you begin. Write them out in your wiki or blog. As you work on them, document your successes and struggles. Be prepared to submit this log of your efforts as part of your evaluation.

Here are some questions to get you started:

What is the topic/subject for your project?
What features will you include in the project?
What technical challenges do you see in the project?
Who will be the audience for your site?

Project update:

As you work on the project, you should keep yourself aware of your process as you work towards your goals. These questions should be answered in your online wiki or blog and printed and handed in by the last class of the week.

Here is a set of questions to give your update some structure:
Student Name:

Each individual should copy these questions to his or her online documentation and answer them. Bring in a printed copy by the last class meeting of the week.

Briefly describe the project:

What have you accomplished this week?

What problems have you overcome this week?

What are the most significant problems you face at this time? What will you do to meet these problems?

What materials or information do you need? How do you plan on getting these materials or information?
